CHRISTIANS AS SALT //BY: AJAYI OMOTOLA

Mark 9:50b (NLT); You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.

Jesus was the one speaking in the above Scripture with His disciples and I feel it is important we take a look at this statement because He really meant what he said.

QUALITIES OF SALT
1) Salt mixes and interacts with its environment; salt penetrates into and interacts with what it’s meant to change. In food for example, it penetrates in order to add flavor or preserve the food. As Christians, we too need to interact and permeate into the midst of whatever we are trying to change and influence. Be influential!

2) Salt promotes healing; Salt has antiseptic, bactericidal and antiinflammatory properties. It's been used for centuries and is still being used (in form of saline) to cleanse wounds and speed up healing. Just as salt aids healing, God's word takes away pain and brings new life. Hence, we need to take God's word to people to help alleviate pain in their lives and help them heal in areas where they are broken. Also, we should do this in our words, actions and lifestyle.

3) Salt is sloughing and exfoliating;
Salt is used to scrub and slough off dry, dead skin cells. It helps to make skin smooth and soft again. As Christians, we are to be a salt that scrubs and sloughs off the rough edges of people (Iron sharpens Iron, (Prov. 27:17). We can soften people; we can have a positive influence on hardhearted people and eventually water them down with love and kindness. Be kind!

4) Salt stings but also soothes; when an open wound is exposed to salt, it stings. The interesting thing is that, though salt stings, after some time, the pain is eased and soothed by that same salt exposure. What has happened is that salt hurts a wound in order to help it get better. Also as Christians, sometimes we have to sting people's conscious. Sometimes we have to be convicted in order to be corrected. Don't be rigid!

5) Salt acts as a fertilizer to make things grow; Studies shows that adding of either Epsom salt or sea salt help plants to produce more fruit. As Christians, we are to help those around us grow and produce "fruit" in their lives. Be fruitful!

6) Salt acts as a preservative; In the above scripture we are considering, Jesus told His disciples according to the message, preserve yourselves. Preserve Peace.

Oh my beloved! This really struck my heart and decided to share. Let's not be lazy Christians. God demands more from us. Let's arise and shine because this is what we are called for. May the Lord show us His mercy and Open our eyes and minds of Understanding in Jesus name. Amen
Shalom!
